Oh goodness! Hmmm. This is hard.
1. I really enjoy doing laundry. I like pouring warm clothes on the bed and just falling into them and then folding them and putting them away. I’m tired of people joking that I should do theirs, though. I only like doing mine!
2. Since reading the Paradise Kiss manga, I can’t turn my back on someone when sharing a bed with them. Friend, lover, stranger…. doesn’t matter. I will face them or sleep on my back.
3. My favorite place on earth is Bat Cave, North Carolina.
4. I sleep with a stuffed animal dressed like a pirate named Ollie. He traveled through Europe with me a year and and a half ago. I also thought he was a penguin, but he is in fact an owl, and I’m afraid I gave him an identity crisis.
5. Every day, I write in a physical journal. Over the last 6 years I’ve filled 20. I started a new one yesterday for the new year.
6. Dandelions, otters, and strawberries are some of my absolute favorite things, though the list can go quite a bit on.
7. My favorite street name I’ve seen is Spooky Branch Lane.
8. I’ve met Charles De Lint, my favorite author.
9. I have three (ish) tattoos and a need for at least one more, though I’ve changed my mind on what it would be so many times and none of them feel right in the first place.
10. I’m currently avoiding packing for my flight in the morning which I have to leave for in a few hours.
I was trying to think of something clever for that, but since you’re anon, I didn’t come up with anything. I personalize my clever, you see. Why anon??
But, yes! Yes, win for a truth!
Orion, because the name is pretty and it’s easy to see. I like the myth too, even though he’s a douche. But it isn’t special… Everyone knows how to spot Orion.
Cassiopeia because I remember the first time I saw it in Edmonton, Alberta when I was eight. It just felt like something I did on my own and it’s something I can teach to people.
And just to be difficult, I also like the myth for Canis Major and Canis Minor, but I don’t know how to find their constellations. But they’re up there!
It's where you wake up with a smile because you're just glad to be there.
It's a place where warm wind kisses your face to welcome you back.
It's the place you love most of all in the world.
And it's a place, where even though you may not have everything that you want, you have all that you need.
I’m really curious as to why you’re anon.
That’s a pretty complete definition for it. The other responses were true too, that it’s where you can be yourself, where you can be accepted, safe.
When I first asked, I was also thinking little things like home is a place where people don’t have to knock to come it. For me, there has to be a chaos of books. I love hearing faint noises from downtown when in my room. Home is where I got skinned knees and climbed trees, it’s where my pets are buried and my heart broke. These roads, the way they turn, the specifics of them like the storybook tree on Smith Level. Home is not feeling grumpy every day, it’s the railroad tracks on Estes, the summer fireflies, the ropeswing and the dogs up the street. It’s here. It’s North Carolina.
Most days, it’s being able to say I’m good or pretty good without lying.
Right now it’s the heat, this town. It’s my friends. It’s my heart.
